IGNOU Samarth Portal 2026: Admission, Login & Hall Ticket

IGNOU runs three separate Samarth portals, and each has its own login. ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in takes new admissions to ODL programmes. ignouiop.samarth.edu.in takes admissions to online programmes. ignou.samarth.edu.in is the student portal you use once you have an enrolment number. Open the wrong one and your login fails even with the right password.

All three run on the Samarth portal system, which the Ministry of Education says serves 5,000+ institutions (August 2024). IGNOU gives each stage its own portal. This page shows which door is yours, how to get in, and what to do when it will not open.

Which IGNOU Samarth portal do you need? | कौन सा पोर्टल खोलें?

Pick the portal by where you are in your IGNOU journey. Applicants use an admission portal and sign in with the username they created there. Admitted students use the student portal, where the username is the enrolment number. One programme, PGCMDM, has a portal of its own.

Your admission username and your enrolment number are two different things. Once your admission is confirmed, everyday work moves to the student portal and your enrolment number.

Applying for admission: keep your APAAR ID ready first

IGNOU’s ODL admission portal tells every applicant to keep the APAAR ID ready before starting the form. It also carries a help link for students who cannot create one. The July 2026 ODL cycle has closed; the portal now shows “Registration Process for JULY 2026 session over.” The next cycle is announced on ignou.ac.in.

When the next cycle opens, follow this order on the ODL admission portal:

  1. Create your APAAR ID before you begin. If it fails, use the APAAR help link on the admission portal.
  2. Register a new account with your own email address and mobile number.
  3. Open the confirmation email IGNOU sends. If it never arrives, click “Resend Registration Confirmation Mail” on the sign-in page.
  4. Sign in with your registered username and password, then type the captcha.
  5. Fill the form, upload your documents and pay the fee online.
  6. Submit, then download the completed form for your records.

Applied in an earlier cycle and cannot find your form? The sign-in page has a “Previous Admission Portal” link for older applications.

Activating your student account with the enrolment number

After IGNOU confirms your admission, you create a fresh account on the student portal. Registration asks for only four things: programme, name, enrolment number and a captcha. IGNOU then emails a one-time password to your registered address, and you set your own password.

The portal itself asks students to use their own mobile number and email, not a cyber café’s or a friend’s. Here is the exact flow:

  1. Open ignou.samarth.edu.in and click New Registration.
  2. Select your programme from the list.
  3. Type your name as it appears on your IGNOU ID card.
  4. Enter your enrolment number.
  5. Type the captcha text (click it if it is hard to read) and click Submit.
  6. Enter the OTP sent to your registered email ID and choose a password.
  7. Go back to the sign-in page. Your enrolment number is your username.

Write the password down somewhere safe. Every later step (ID card, exam season, hall ticket) runs through this one account.

Inside the student portal: Services and your I-Card

Once you sign in, the left side of the dashboard has a Services tab. IGNOU lists its student services there, and your registration details sit under it. This is also where you download your student identity card, which arrives as a locked PDF.

Getting your I-Card:

  1. Sign in to the student portal.
  2. Open Services on the left.
  3. Click Download I-Card. A PDF file downloads.
  4. Open the PDF. When it asks for a password, type your enrolment number.

Keep that last step in mind: the PDF is locked, and its password is your enrolment number, not your portal password.

Exam season: where the exam form, hall ticket and result live

IGNOU announces each exam form, re-registration window and result on its main website, ignou.ac.in, as a dated notice. The hall ticket is different: for the June 2026 term-end exams, it was issued through the Samarth student portal. Always start from the latest notice, because windows open and close by cycle.

TaskWhere to startWhat to keep ready
Term-end exam formThe current notice on ignou.ac.inEnrolment number and student portal password
Hall ticketignou.samarth.edu.in, after IGNOU announces its releaseEnrolment number and password
Term-end result and grade cardThe result link on ignou.ac.inEnrolment number
Re-registration for the next semester or yearThe current notice on ignou.ac.inEnrolment number and password

If you also study at, or are moving to, another university, expect a different setup. Delhi University’s SLC student portal sits on a uod.ac.in address, and the BHU student and staff Samarth login uses separate addresses for students and employees.

Locked out of an IGNOU Samarth account? Fix it by portal | लॉगिन नहीं हो रहा?

Each IGNOU portal has its own recovery links, and they do not work across portals. The admission portal can reset a forgotten username as well as a password. The student portal offers Reset Password only, because your username is always your enrolment number.

Short answers for IGNOU learners

Is the IGNOU admission login the same as the student portal login?

No. The admission portal uses the username you created when you applied. The student portal at ignou.samarth.edu.in uses your enrolment number, and you create that account separately through New Registration.

What is my username on ignou.samarth.edu.in?

Your enrolment number. IGNOU’s own help page states this. You choose the password during New Registration, after verifying the OTP sent to your registered email.

Can I apply to IGNOU without an APAAR ID?

IGNOU’s admission portal asks applicants to keep their APAAR ID ready before starting. Create it first; if it fails, the portal has a help link for APAAR problems.

Why won’t my IGNOU I-Card open?

The downloaded I-Card PDF is password-protected. Type your enrolment number as the password, not your Samarth portal password.

Where do I check my IGNOU result?

IGNOU announces term-end results on ignou.ac.in. Open the result link in the latest notice and enter your enrolment number.

इग्नू समर्थ पोर्टल पर लॉगिन कैसे करें?

ignou.samarth.edu.in खोलें। यूज़रनेम में अपना एनरोलमेंट नंबर, फिर पासवर्ड और कैप्चा डालें। पहली बार हैं तो पहले New Registration से अकाउंट बनाएं।
